When Leon Brown came out as transgender, they made their requests very clear to the rest of the world. They would only go by “Leon” or “Leo” from there on out. Additionally, they would only use they/them pronouns.
Many members of the Sister Wives fandom quickly adapted, while others remained spiteful. Meri Brown later spoke out and said she would not tolerate any hate toward Leon.
But where did the name “Leon” come from? Did Meri Brown play a role in choosing her child’s new name? See what other Sister Wives fans think online.
Fans Think Meri Brown Helped Pick Leon’s Name
While Leon and their partner Audrey Kriss wish to remain out of the spotlight, Meri still maintains a close relationship with the pair. And it seems that Meri might have even played a role in choosing Leon’s name.
Interestingly enough, Leon might have chosen their name partly based on their deadname. For context, a deadname refers to the name a trans person was assigned at birth. It’s extremely disrespectful to refer to a trans person by their deadname, so Leon will only be referred to as “Leon” here.
On Reddit, a user pointed out that Leon’s middle name from their deadname sounded similar to “Leon.”
In the comments, other Redditors added that the name “Leon” is also likely an homage to a nickname Meri gave them as a child.
“I think Meri also called them Leo the lion as a kid because of their blonde curly mane,” another Redditor pointed out.
In the early days of Sister Wives, the family often showed photos of the children as babies. Indeed, Leon did have a huge mane of bright blonde curls as a child.
The TLC Star Respects Leon’s Wishes To Keep A Lower Profile
Leon Brown no longer wishes to be connected with Sister Wives any longer. In a recent interview, Meri Brown confirmed that she and Leon are still incredibly close. She simply doesn’t feature Leon on her very public Instagram page out of respect for Leon’s wishes.
“Leon and I have a good relationship and I don’t talk about them a lot because they want to remain private,” Meri shared in an episode of The Sarah Fraser Show, adding that she has three wonderful “granddogs” from Leon and Audrey.
Leon and Audrey do still post on their public Instagram pages, but only when they want to. Staying away from TLC has given them more freedom with their personal lives.
