Réal Andrews Says Goodbye to GH and Hello to an Exciting New Role!

It has been over a year since Marcus Taggert was last seen on General Hospital, having a breakdown in an elevator after learning his beloved daughter, Trina Robinson, wasn’t biologically his, and had actually been sired by Curtis Ashford.

Now his portrayer, Réal Andrews, has decided to share his side of what is happening with his personal GH journey.

A New Chapter

Andrews, whose GH career kicked off all the way back in 1996, began his video by acknowledging, “I’ve been getting a lot of questions for over a year now,” and said that while he had answers, “They’re probably not the answers that you want to hear, but it’s all great.”

He continued, “So, my chapter with General Hospital is over,” telling his followers, “The writing has been on the wall for a long time…. and I wanted to come here because you guys have been phenomenal, the best, amazing supporters.”

Andrews marveled, “It’s just been an incredible journey, you know? I do want to give a shout-out to [Casting Director] Mark Teschner [who] gave me the first opportunity [to join the show], [former Head Writer] Bob Guza, [former Executive Producer] Wendy Riche, [Executive Producer] Frank [Valentini. All the champions there.”

He went on to thank producers, writers and casting at the ABC soap before he revealed that he had some very good news to share about his career. “I know God has made it very clear to me [that GH is behind me] and how do I know?” he posed. “Because when I took it to God … I got offered what is the biggest role in my life.

It’s in the best, biggest and best network, the best director, producers, writers, in my opinion, in the industry — we’re in pre-production for it.”

The actor has signed a non-disclosure agreement, so he wasn’t able to go into any details about the new acting opportunity that had come his way, but enthused, “It’s huge,” reiterating later in the video, ” It’s the best, biggest project of my life, ever.

The most important one. And everything comes together, and happens for a reason, right? Everything I’ve done in my whole life was for this role right here.”

He said he understood that the prospect of not seeing Taggert again would not be music to his fans’ ears. “I know a lot of you are gonna be like, mad or whatever, and I appreciate it, I’m grateful for that, but you know what? It’s been an amazing ride, right? And I love to be able to, when you think about it, go out on top.

I mean, man, the last scenes that I show, I mean, as an actor, I couldn’t have asked for anything more…. Frank said, ‘I’ve written you some amazing stuff,’ and he did.” He marveled, “Being blessed to be on a show like General Hospital, I mean, it really is a blessing, from top to bottom.”

Reflected the actor, “God said this chapter of my life is closed. Yeah, that was awesome, and I was able to go out with the material that I was blessed [with]. I mean, what a dream for an actor, to be able to go out with material like that.

I mean, that’s every actor’s dream…. I mean, it certainly was mine and the cast members that I’ve gotten to work with — the friends, you know? I mean, Maurice [Benard, Sonny] is my boy.”

Regarding his upcoming project, Andrews added, “When I’m able to share with you guys… [it’s] gonna blow you away.”

But he did not rule out the possibility of returning to GH down the line, noting, “Never say never.”
