The words of General Hospital’s Laura Wright were taken as a revisionist history of the characters, and she set the record straight.
General Hospital star Laura Wright spoke about how her character, Carly, was there for Jason from almost the beginning and always accepted him for who he was after his memory loss.
At the same time, his family wanted him to return to the way he was. Fans were outraged because they perceived her statement as a revisionist history removing Robin, who did the same thing for Jason.
Fans Bickered Over a Nitpick
Daily Drama shared a portion of their podcast on X, formerly Twitter. In it, Steve Burton (Jason) interviewed GH’s Laura Wright (Carly). She mentioned being the fourth actress to play the role, so her knowledge of Carly and Jason’s history was something she looked up.
“When Carly met Jason,” she said, “it was a time when no one in the Quartermaines accepted him because they wanted who he used to be back. And she was the one who loved everything about him, for who he was in this moment.” She further explained that it was most likely a big deal at the time for Jason to feel accepted as he was.
Fans took exception to her words because they felt Robin (Kimberly McCullough) was the first person to accept Jason since she was there when he awoke after the accident that rendered him brain-damaged with permanent memory loss.
They erroneously took Wright’s words to mean that Carly was the first one to help him, nitpicking at something that doesn’t exist.
One fan shared the video on X with the caption, “#GH The Robin erasure is INSANE. INSANE.” (Take a look back to when fans thought Jason’s memories would somehow return.)
Many fans agreed with the concept, as one wrote, “I thought the same thing! Robin was the first person to accept Jason after the accident. She was there when he woke up! And she knew him before so her acceptance was HUGE to him.”
Fans Rushed to Her Defense
Aghast, Wright wrote, “Oh my gosh, you guys it wasn’t a Robin erase – I meant in the world of the Quartermaines (to my knowledge) my gosh. Let’s have some grace and kindness – I love the show and all the characters and the actors – nothing but LOVE ❤️❤️.”
Another fan shared a video from back in the day of Jason explaining to Hannah Scott (Lisa Vultaggio) how Carly had accepted Jason from the beginning and captioned it, “Yeah, here’s Jason like 25 years ago saying the exact same thing!” To which Wright replied, “Thanks :))”
The fans rallied in Wright’s defense and praised her graciousness about the fact that she was simply stating things from Carly’s point of view. One fan empathized, responding, “I am so sorry you have to deal with haters on here.”
Whether they agree with Wright or not, the fans sure do keep the history of the show in the forefront of their minds! (Flashback to when Robin first appeared on the show!)
