General Hospital star Steve Burton has broken his silence sharing his frustration over his on-screen lover Kelly Monaco being fired from the soap after a 21-year-long run.

As the shocking news leaked that this fall Kelly’s beloved character Sam McCall will be killed off from General Hospital, her co-star Steve has spoken out about the update sharing his confusion and disappointment over the news.

Steve, who plays the role of fan-favorite character Jason Morgan on the show, revealed his thoughts on the choice after sharing the small screen with Kelly for many years.

On Steve’s podcast, the Daily Drama which he co-hosts with Bradford Anderson – who also stars on General Hospital as the character Spinelli – the pair dished on their reactions to the unexpected news.

After being flooded with questions about Kelly’s firing, Bradford responded: “Hey guys we see all of your questions about Kelly – we’re on a break from the show. We heard about it last night just like you did. We do not have any information. I wish we had information to tell you.”

To which Steve nodded his head in agreement and speculated they will discover more information in the coming days, but for now, he confirmed: “We know as much as you do.” The 54-year-old actor went on to share his own sorrow over the news as he added: “Whatever happens sucks and I don’t know exactly what the story is.”

After the clip from the podcast circulated on social media, General Hospital fans were left fuming over their response and the lack of information provided.

One fan penned: “Ok so you’re on a break now from #GH you can’t call or text #KellyMonaco and see what’s going on, tell her you’re there for her, offer support. I call BS. Both SB and BA are probably under a gag order. Just say we can’t say anything. Don’t insult the fans.”

And another wrote: “B——t. Them acting as clueless as us fans about what’s going on on that set is insulting.” And third replied: “So Steve doesn’t have the phone number of his long-time co-star that he could maybe text?”

And someone else suggested: “They should come up front and support her that way she’s done with other people come Come on @1SteveBurton and @BfordAnderson do something about it please don’t let us the fans lose our Kelly.”
