Monaco’s fans have been trying to prepare for this, as we all have soap characters, we feel like we grew up with. For some people, Sam is one of those characters.
Kelly wrapped up her final GH scenes on Friday, September 27th. Sam’s exit is said to be a dramatic one, and the circumstances surrounding her death will be tragic.
It’s a slap in the face to Monaco and her fans. But as we all know, characters come and go. And sometimes they come back.
However, something about this particular exit feels final. As soon as the news broke that Monaco would be leaving the soap sometime in the fall, her fans rushed to her aide, scrambling to help her get her job back.
Fans created a petition to keep Kelly on the show. The decision to kill off Sam was shocking, as she’s been a part of the GH family since her debut on October 1st, 2003.
The petition, which was a collective outcry from her loyal fans, read, “We are making a plea to the producers and the network: keep Kelly Monaco on General Hospital.”
The petition inspired over 16,000 GH fans to sign. Unfortunately, the powers that be have not changed their decision to fire Kelly.
Several other demonstrations of fans’ devotion to the character have taken place. For example, an “I Stand With Kelly” billboard was erected in Times Square.
Kelly’s dedicated petition signers and organizers sent a billboard truck to the General Hospital studio earlier this month.

The end of Sam’s story is one viewers weren’t expecting. Monaco was said to be “blindsided” by the decision to write her off the show. It hasn’t stopped her supporters from their last-ditch efforts to save Kelly’s job and Sam’s life.
Kelly Monaco’s mother, Carmina Monaco, wrote a beautiful message to viewers and Kelly’s fans on X,
“I want to take this moment to reach out to Kelly’s incredible fans and express my deepest gratitude for the unwavering love, loyalty, and support you’ve shown her throughout her time on General Hospital.”
Carmina explained that Kelly wrapped up her time at GH just four days shy of her twenty-first anniversary on the soap.
“On this final day, Kelly will close the door of her dressing room for the last time. This moment is a difficult one, but knowing that she’s had such an incredible, devoted fan base has given her strength. You’ve stood by her through every twist and turn, celebrating her achievements and providing comfort in the hard times,”
She said.
“Your love and dedication have meant more than words can express, not only to Kelly but to all of us who care so deeply for her,” she added. Thank you for being there, for believing in her, and for reminding her of the impact she’s made. We will always be grateful for you standing with her through it all.”
